NOTES: This hat is made to fit the average 22” female head circumference. The yarn used in creating this pattern is on the thinner side of a medium 4 yarn. Feel free to adjust your hook size to get the correct gauge(work rounds 1-3). Finished hat should measure approx. 8” tall by 10.5” wide at the brim. Feel free to add more of the brim rounds to add more height if needed.

To begin CH 4,
ROUND 1: place 11 DC in your very 1st CH, SL to the top of the CH 4 to connect (12)
ROUND 2: CH 3(counts as a DC), place an additional DC in the 1st ST, place 2 DC in the remaining 11 sts, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect (24)
ROUND 3: CH 3(counts as a DC), place 2 DC in the next ST, repeat (DC, 2 DC) 11 times, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect (36)
For gauge your circle should measure 3.25” across the center at the end of round 3.
ROUND 4: CH 3(counts as a DC), DC in the next ST, place 2 DC in the next ST, repeat (place 1 DC in each of the next 2 sts, 2 DC in the next ST) 11 times, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect (48)
ROUND 5: CH 3(counts as a DC), place an additional DC in the 1st ST, repeat (place 1 DC in each of the next 3 sts, 2 DC in the next ST) 11 times, DC in the last 3 sts, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect (60)
For gauge your circle should measure 5.25” across the center at the end of round 5.

Now we will stop connecting the stitches at the end and instead be doing back and forth rows to create the opening for your pony tail.
ROW 6: CH 1(does not count as a ST), repeat (place 1 sc in the first 9 sts, 2 SC in the next ST) 6 times (66)
ROW 7: CH 5 & Turn, HDC in the 3rd CH from your hook , CH 1, SK 1, HDC in the last CH, HDC in each ST around(69 total sts counting the CH 1)
ROW 8: CH 3(counts as your first ST) & turn, DC around remembering to place a DC in the CH 1(69)
ROW 9: CH 1(does not count as a ST) & turn, HDC in the first 2 sts, CH 1, SK 1, HDC in the remaining 66 sts(69)
ROW 10: repeat ROW 8
ROW 11: repeat ROW 9
ROW 12: repeat ROW 8
ROW 13: repeat ROW 9
Now you will begin connecting at the end of the round again.
ROUND 14: repeat ROW 8, SL to your 3rd DC to connect(4th ST)
ROUND 15: CH 1(does not count as a ST) & turn, HDC through the 4 overlapping sts placing 1 HDC in each through both layers, HDC in the next 61 sts, place an additional HDC
in the 1st overlapping ST, SL to your beginning HDC to connect (66)
ROUND 16: CH 3(counts as your first ST) & turn, DC in each ST around, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect(66)
ROUND 17: CH 1(does not count as a ST) & turn, HDC in each ST around, SL to the top of your beginning HDC to connect(66)
ROUND 18: CH 3(counts as your first ST) & turn, DC in each ST around, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect(66)
BRIM ROUNDS 19-21: CH 1(does not count as a ST), beginning on the CH 3 of the last round, repeat(FP DC, BPDC) 33 times, SL to your beginning FP DC to connect

Cut, tie off, & weave in your ends. Now attach your buttons to the next to the last HDC on rows 7, 9, 11, & 13.
