Drip Pillow Hat Crochet Pattern

These pillow hat designs are so easy and adorable, especially seeing the pom poms bouncing along when the kiddos are on the move!











Drip Pillow Hat Crochet Pattern from Regina P Designs

Feel Free to use of any WW4/Aran/10 Ply yarn you have on hand! There are measurements throughout the pattern to make sure you are creating the right size.



Here's what you'll need to get started.......


Materials:

Big Twist Value Yarn(approx. 110 yds total)

CA = Taupe(approx. 83 yds total)

CB = Light Rose(approx. 27 yds total)

H(Boye 5mm) Hook

Scissors

Needle

2 Pom-Poms


Abbreviations(US Terms):

SK = Skip

sts = Stitches

ST = Stitch

SL= Slip Stitch

CH = Chain

SC = Single Crochet

HDC = Half Double Crochet

FLO = Front Loop Only

BLO = Back Loop Only

DC = Double Crochet


NOTES:

  • You can adapt this pattern to any size by chaining any multiple of 3.

  • Finished hat with this pattern should fit the average adult female head circumference of 21”. For gauge 8 sts & 6 rows should equal 2”.

  • This hat is worked bottom up & the trim is added at the end.

  • You can adjust the height by adding or subtracting rows of the trim ribbing.

  • Carry your yarn UP(not around) to avoid having to weave in a million ends. YO & Pull through both colors when you SL to connect at the end of each round, beginning at the end of ROUND 2, and then CH 1 to begin the next round with just your working yarn for that round.

To begin with CA CH 84 & SL to your beginning CH to connect


ROUND 1:(right side) CH 1(does not count as a ST) & turn, SC in each CH around, SL to your beginning SC to connect(84 total sts)


ROUND 2: CH 1(does not count as a ST) & turn, SC in the next ST, repeat(CH 1/SK 1, SC in the next 2 sts)27 times, CH 1/SK 1, SC in the last ST, SL to your beginning SC to connect(84 total sts, 28-CH1 spaces)


Change to CB

ROUND 3: CH 1(does not count as a ST) & turn, HDC BLO in the next ST, repeat(HDC in the CH gap,HDC FLO, HDC BLO) 27 times, HDC FLO your last ST, SL to your beginning HDC to connect(84 total sts)


ROUND 4: Repeat ROW 2


ROUNDS 5 & 6: Change to CA, Repeat(ROUND 3, ROUND 2)


ROUNDS 7 & 8: Change to CB, Repeat(ROUND 3, ROUND 2)


NOTE: for gauge your piece should measure 2” high by 10.5” wide(folded) at the end of round 7. The ribbing will cinch the brim up a bit and give it some stretch.

ROUNDS 9 & 10: Change to CA, Repeat(ROUND 3, ROUND 2)


ROUNDS 11 & 12: Change to CB, Repeat(ROUND 3, ROUND 2)


ROUNDS 13 & 14: Change to CA, Repeat(ROUND 3, ROUND 2)

NOTE: for gauge your piece should measure 4” high by 10.5” wide(folded) at the end of round 14.


ROUNDS 15 & 16: Change to CB, Repeat(ROUND 3, ROUND 2)


ROUNDS 17 & 18: Change to CA, Repeat(ROUND 3, ROUND 2)


ROUNDS 19 & 20: Change to CB, Repeat(ROUND 3, ROUND 2)

NOTE: for gauge your piece should measure 5.75” high by 10.5” wide(folded) at the end of round 20.


ROUND 21: Change to CA, Cut & tie off CB. Repeat ROUND 3


ROUND 22: CH 1(does not count as a ST) & turn, SC in each ST around, SL to your beginning SC to connect(84 total sts). Cut & tie off leaving a long tail to sew your opening shut.


NOTE: for gauge your piece should measure 6.25” high by 10.5” wide(folded) at the end of round 22.


Turn your hat inside out with the seam running up the center of the back and whip stitch the top opening closed. Weave in your ends. Turn your hat right side out, attach CA to your starting CH(in the center of the back) and continue on to the trim portion.


TRIM:

ROUND 1: CH 3(counts as your first ST), DC in each CH around, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect(84)


ROUNDS 2-4: CH 1(Does not count as a ST), FPDC the first ST, BPDC the next ST, repeat(FPDC, BPDC) around, SL to your beginning DC to connect(84 total)

NOTE: Place FPDC on FPDC & BPDC on BPDC.


Cut, tie off & weave in any remaining ends. If you need to, continue the ribbing repeats to whatever height you desire, then cut & tie off. Attach a pom-pom to both corner points on the top.


NOTE: for gauge your hat should measure 8” high by 10.5” wide(folded) when completed.
